Prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem
PROSE® by BostonSight is a custom medical treatment that saves sight in patients with ocular surface disease. The treatment uses our FDA-cleared custom-designed and fabricated prosthetic devices, along with a co-managed treatment model, to restore visual function. The devices are manufactured on-site at our state-of-the-art Manufacturing Lab.
Eye Conditions Prose Treats
If your patients suffer from the following conditions, PROSE treatment may be the right solution.
Chronic Dry Eye
The most common symptoms of dry eye include watery eyes, tired eyes, blurry vision, grittiness or burning.
Keratoconus & Ectasia
Conditions where the cornea changes shape, creating a protruding cornea that causes significant visual impairment.
Graft vs Host Disease
Ocular GVHD affects 60-80% of patients with chronic GVHD, and causes blurry vision, burning sensation, light sensitivity, and eye pain.
Stevens Johnson Syndrome
Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome (TENS) are rare, serious disorders of the skin and mucous membranes that can result in painful eyes.
Sjögren’s Syndrome
Sjögren’s Syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease in which people’s white blood cells attack their moisture-producing glands. Hallmark symptoms are dry eyes, light sensitivity (photophobia) and dry mouth.
Post-Corneal Transplant
Issues that can develop from corneal transplants include dry eyes, poor vision and astigmatism. More severe complications include rejection of the new cornea which must be treated immediately by your ophthalmologist.
Complete Customization
Advanced control over the device design in all eight meridians allows for a complete customization for each patient’s eye and makes it possible to fit the devices on any ocular surface without causing damage, impingement, or compression of the ocular surface. Treatment can last anywhere between 5 – 10 days until the PROSE clinician and patient are satisfied with the outcome.
PROSE ophthalmologists and optometrists complete an intensive BostonSight PROSE Clinical Fellowship before they can provide treatment.
PROSE devices are removable transparent domes, about the size of a nickel, made of gas-permeable plastic that allows oxygen to reach the surface of the eye. The devices rest on the sclera and vault over the cornea to create a smooth surface over the distorted, damaged, or diseased ocular surface. They are filled with preservative-free saline, each day at the time of application, and are removed at bedtime.
