John A. Irvine, M.D.

Doctor John A. Irvine is a board certified ophthalmologist at the Doheny Eye Institute, specializing in corneal and external disease; he is also a professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). He received a B.A. from Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and received his M.D. from USC in 1982. He performed his residency and a fellowship in Cornea/External Disease at the world-renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Doctor Irvine recently completed a 6-year term on the Annual Program Planning Committee for the American Academy of Ophthalmology as the chair of the Cornea/External Disease Section. He has served as a board member and as president of both the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology and the Research Study Club of Los Angeles. A member of the Doheny staff since 1987, Dr. Irvine currently also serves as Chief of Ophthalmology at the USC University Hospital.

Gloria Chiu, O.D.

PROSE Clinical Fellow
Doctor Gloria Chiu received both her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology and her Doctor of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley. She then pursued a post-graduate residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the Southern California College of Optometry. In 2009, she completed a BostonSight™ PROSE Clinical Fellowship at Boston Foundation for Sight. Doctor Chiu is currently the Chief Optometrist at the PROSE Clinic at the Doheny Eye Center in Los Angeles. Her clinical interests include contact lens fittings for patients with ocular surface disease and irregular corneas. Her research interests include ocular pathology in contact sport athletes and corneal health associated with contact lens wear. In 2009, Dr. Chiu received the George W. Mertz Contact Lens Residency Award from the American Optometric Foundation.
